Private Browsing (Incognito Mode)

What is Private Browsing?

Private Browsing (known as Incognito in Chrome or Private Mode in Safari) is a browser feature that creates a temporary session isolated from the main browser profile. When the Private window is closed, the browser automatically deletes the browsing history, cookies, site data, and information entered in forms associated with that session.

Why does Private Browsing matter?

For users, it provides local privacy and a "clean slate," useful for logging into multiple accounts or avoiding personalized search results. For website owners, Private Browsing presents a challenge because cookies are not persistent; a user who visits in Private mode today and returns tomorrow will appear as a completely new user, and they will be asked for consent via Clym or other CMPs every single time.

FAQs about Private Browsing

No. It only prevents your device from saving data. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP), the websites you visit, and network administrators (like at work) can still see your IP address and browsing activity.

Yes, but only temporarily. Cookies are stored while the private window remains open so that you can log in to websites and use shopping carts. Once the window is closed, the cookies also gets deleted.

Because the browser does not have a record of your previous visit. Every time you open a Private window, you are essentially a "new" user to the website, so it must ask for your consent again.
